Marital Relationship

They say there is very little difference between a sleeping person and a dead person. In both states, the soul separates from the body, leaving it motionless and unconscious. Yet, even in sleep, some bodies come alive with a spark of life. Which bodies are they?

Yes, many marriages are already dead while the husband and wife are still awake. They no longer speak to each other. There is no expression of emotion or affection. They may not even want to look at each other’s faces. They continue living under the same roof only because of society, their children, or some other ties that hold them together. In a way, they remain bound to the relationship out of compulsion.

Yet, during sleep, in that unconscious state, these couples remain connected to each other—perhaps through the touch of a single part of their bodies, such as a hand or a foot resting against the other.

Just as a nearly dead tree in the heart of a desert, deprived of water, begins to dream of survival when it receives even a little water, these relationships, too, continue to dream of being alive again.

That is why I say: no matter what happens, do not separate the beds of a husband and wife and deprive your relationship of its very last breath of oxygen.

Remember, Allah can restore a person to health and send them home even after they have been in the ICU. So, do not lose hope. If Allah wills, things can gradually get better again. The springtime of life can return.

All it takes is time.
